Frogs Serenade Hikers at Jacobsburg [Video]

If you need a reminder that spring is here, the amphibious residents of Jacobsburg State Park are more than willing to show you in the form of a sweet serenade.
Whether you're a hiker, biker or dog walker, make sure to keep your ears open as you head down the Henry's Woods Trail off Belfast Road.
Here's where you can find the chirpy serenade:

- Park in the main lot off Belfast Road.
- Head into the park and walk over the bridge.
- Hang a right by the bathrooms—you'll see a sign—onto the Henry's Woods Trail.
- Enjoy the view, snap a few pictures.
- You'll eventually notice a small stream to your right. Then you'll come to a crossroads. Make the hair-pin right to stay on the Henry's Woods Trail.
- The frogs will be on your left. You can probably hear them by now!

I don't know what species of frog is living at Jacobsburg State Park. There are quite a few options to choose from.

According to the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, the following species of frog live in Pennsylvania:
- The Bullfrog
- The Eastern Spadefoot
- Northern Cricket Frog
- Northern Leopard
- Northern Spring Peeper
- Pennsylvania's Handsome Hoppers
- Pickerel

Jacobsburg Stewardship Day - Saturday, April 20, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Help Jacobsburg celebrate Earth Day by participating in one of the many stewardship projects in the park, including invasive plant removal, trail maintenance, native plant plantings, butterfly garden clean-up, litter pick-ups and more. Signs of Spring Nature Hike - Sunday, April 21, 9 a.m. to noon
Take a walk through Jacobsburg in search of the "first" signs of different plants and animals. Phenology is the study of periodic plant and animal life cycle events and how these are influenced by the season and other factors, generally to indicate the time frame for any seasonal biological phenomena, including the dates of last appearance. Examples include the date of emergence of leaves and flowers, the first flight of butterflies and the first appearance of migratory birds.
