Jacobsburg's New Visitor Center Takes Shape [Photos]
Workers are banging and clanging away as the construction of the new $4.8 million, 9,300-square-foot visitor center at Jacobsburg State Park and Environmental Education Center continues.
As you hike at the 1,168-acre Jacobsburg State Park, you'll likely hear birds chirping, squirrels scurrying up trees, dogs daring to take a dip in the Bushkill Creek, and hammers banging away in the distance.
Wait... the banging of hammers isn't what you'd call "peaceful?"
Well, bear with it, folks. The end is near as the new $4.8 million, 9,300-square-foot visitor center at Jacobsburg State Park and Environmental Education Center takes shape.

The site of the new center is adjacent to the main parking lot along Belfast Road.
According to the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), the building will include a green roof planted with vegetation, solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling, on-site stormwater infiltration, water-conserving plumbing fixtures, regionally purchased materials and high recycled-content materials.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by August 2013.
Until then, according to a flier posted near the site, there is no access to the Homestead Trail.
