Nazareth Easton YMCA Swim Team Breaks Record at States

Local swimmers break record and qualify for Nationals at YMCA States

State College, PA- Nazareth Easton YMCA Swim Team (NEYS) competed against over 70 YMCAs from across Pennsylvania this weekend in the PA YMCA State Swimming Championship (States).
PA Region YMCA Swimming hosts the championship meet, the highest level of YMCA swimming in Pennsylvania, to mark the end of their winter season.
Nazareth-Easton sent 26 swimmers who had to qualify by finishing in the top six at PA YMCA Central District Champs (Districts) held earlier this month in York. This weekend, in State College, the team notched 5 top ten finishes in individual events and 1 top 10 relay, finishing 33rd in total points scored.
”The coaches are proud of all the hard work and dedication each and every swimmer put forth, and the good sportsmanship, camaraderie, and positive attitude we witnessed throughout the whole weekend,” said head coach Dennis Drake. “Most of our swimmers set new personal bests, we achieved two more National qualifying times, set 8 new team records, and even set a new Pennsylvania YMCA State record,” he continued
Nick Berger of Phillipsburg won the Boys 10&Under 100y Free (58.53), 50y Back (30.64), anchored the 200 Free relay to a fifth place finish (2:06.22), and set a new PA YMCA meet record in the 50y Free (25.94). Not to be outdone Brendan Alvino of Nazareth having already qualified for YMCA Nationals in the 50y free and 100y free went on to qualify for two more events, the 100y Butterfly (52.38) and the 100y Back (53.16), where he placed 3rd overall.
The meet was held March 22-24 at Penn State University’s McCoy Natatorium in State College, PA.
The Nazareth-Easton YMCA Swim Team is a nonprofit year-round competitive swim team that competes in both YMCA Swimming and USA Swimming. Swimming out of the Nazareth YMCA their program is open to all area swimmers ages 5 – 21. The team works with abilities ranging from novice to advance. Swimmers compete in dual meets, invitationals, and championship meets. New swimmers are always welcome.
