Nazareth Easton YMCA Swim Team takes on the State

Area swimmers get top-10 finishes at State Championship

State College, PA- Nazareth Easton YMCA Swim Team (NEYS) competed against over 70 YMCAs from across Pennsylvania this weekend in the PA YMCA State Swimming Championship (States).
PA Region YMCA Swimming hosts the championship meet, the highest level of YMCA swimming in Pennsylvania, to mark the end of their winter season.
Nazareth-Easton sent 26 swimmers who had to qualify by finishing in the top six at PA YMCA Central District Champs (Districts) held earlier this month in York. This weekend, in State College, the team notched 6 top ten finishes in individual events and 4 top 10 relays.
”I’m proud of everyone on our team, not just for what they’ve done in the pool but incorporating the Y’s values of respect, caring, honesty, and responsibility. It’s allowed our team to face challenges and success this season with humility and positive attitudes,” said head coach Dennis Drake.
“We accomplished a lot this past weekend at States, we had a ton of best times across the board and broke a few team records,” said Drake. Genine Collins of Phillipsburg won the Girls 11/12 100 Fly (1:01.74), she finished second in the 50 Fly (27.29), fifth in 50 Free (25.45) and anchored the 200 Free relay to a seventh place finish (1:49.50) . The Boys 11/12 200 Medley relay after setting a new meet record at Districts (1:58.90), improved on their time to finish second at States (1:57.27) and fifth in the 200 Free relay (1:46.93) .
The event was March 23-25 at Penn State University’s McCoy Natatorium in State College, PA.
The Nazareth-Easton YMCA Swim Team is a nonprofit year-round competitive swim team that competes in both YMCA Swimming and USA Swimming. Swimming out of the Nazareth YMCA, a branch of the Greater Valley YMCA, their program is open to all swimmers ages 5 – 21. The team works with abilities ranging from novice to advance. Swimmers compete in dual meets, invitationals, and championship meets. New swimmers are always welcome.
