Northampton Soccer Team Taunts African Opponent With 'Ebola' Chants

The team reportedly hurled racist slurs and expressed a wish that the Northampton player from West Africa would contract ebola.

A West African teen who plays soccer for Nazareth High School reportedly became the target of racial slurs and a chant about ebola at a match against Northampton last week.

Edward Bachert, the teen’s guardian, said that the comments distressed and upset the teenager. Most of the teen’s family, including his parents, still live in the Guinean village that the Morning Call termed “Ground Zero” for the ebola outbreak.

Officials at both schools are investigating the matter.
