Annual Scarecrow Competition, A Bucks County Favorite, Starts Monday

It's a Bucks County favorite: the scarecrow competition at Peddler's Village. It starts Monday, Sept. 11 with a festival on Sept. 16 and 17.

LAHASKA, PA — The opening of the highly-anticipated scarecrow display at Peddler’s Village is just days away. The show starts Monday, September 11 and goes through Sunday, October 29.

To kick off the fun, the Annual Scarecrow Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, and Sunday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

During the festival, there will be Scarecrow-Making Workshops both days on the Street Road Green at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. During the workshops, Peddler’s Village staff will teach participants how to create a unique, life-size scarecrow to take home and display. The fee is $35; all scarecrow building materials are included.

Public voting on the scarecrows will be held through Oct. 9. This year's categories include:

  • Out of this World Scarecrow: Uncover your crop circles and conspiracy theories to create your best futuristic alien scarecrow.
  • Thrills with Chills: Think outside the mask by creating a scarecrow that scares.
  • Group: Make your scarecrow a group project—school, church, office, club, scout troop, community, etc.
  • Quite the Character: Create a scarecrow interpretation of your favorite book, television or movie character—human, animal or animated.
  • Traditional: Pay homage to the scarecrows that have been “scaring crows” from farmers’ fields for centuries in this category. Utilize old cloth, straw and natural supplies.
  • Kids Only: This category is for children 12 and under.
