NEW HOPE, PA — Pop icon Cyndi Lauper will perform as part of the Bucks County Playhouse's 2020 gala which, like most entertainment events in 2020, has gone digital.

The virtual gala is part of a campaign designed to keep the Bucks Playhouse team together and working to continue digital offerings as well as preparing for a return to live, in-person theater.

It is scheduled for Oct. 24. Packages for the gala are available for purchase online and include access to the show as well as dinner baskets. The playhouse's popular auction also will be held online and sponsors will have access to a special Zoom champagne toast with visits from surprise guests.

Located at 70 S. Main St. in New Hope, the Bucks County Playhouse began its original run in 1939, after a small band of artists rallied the community to renovate a building that was set to be demolished.

It remained in continuous operation until 2010, then was reopened in 2012, with the support of alums including Tyne Daly, Andrea McArdle and Angela Lansbury.

Since reopening, the playhouse has brought roughly $10 million to the local economy, backers say, but as a young nonprofit with no endowment, raising funding to preserve the playhouse seven months into the coronavirus outbreak is crucial, they say.
