Got Thoughts On Cannabis In Lambertville? In-Person Forum Wed.

Wednesday night, Lambertville will host an in-person forum on the issue of legalized cannabis in the municipality due to changing state law.

LAMBERTVILLE, NJ — Residents can weigh in Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Justice Complex on preferred ordinances around cannabis in Lambertville. A working group on the issue held its first forum remotely on Thursday, June 17.

At the May 20 mayor and council meeting, local and regional residents pushed back against an ordinance the city tried to introduce to temporarily ban recreational cannabis. Since, the city has sought public opinion to determine a way forward on cannabis in Lambertville.

The New Jersey League of Municipalities has said that any existing ordinances on cannabis are null and void following the changes to New Jersey law; ordinances must be set or readopted before Aug. 21. Otherwise, any cannabis businesses or establishments will be able to operate within the municipality.

Residents feel strongly about legalizing different classes of business licenses, particularly retail licenses state legislators have designated as Class 5.

However, as TAPinto.net reported, the working group also emphasized that neighboring Pennsylvania has not legalized cannabis for recreational use. Lambertville’s border town status could mean significant traffic in the area.
