Nakashima Foundation For Peace To Host Celebration of Unity
The celebration, which will include music, meditation, and light refreshments, will take place on Oct. 6.

NEW HOPE, PA — The Nakashima Foundation for Peace will hold a Celebration of Unity on Sunday, Oct. 6.
The afternoon will feature the planting of a tree as a symbol of preserving Mother Earth for future generations. There will be a formal unveiling of the restored mosaic, "The Poet's Beard," which was a gift of peace from artist Ben Shahn.
The celebration, which will also include music, meditation, and light refreshments, will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Nakashima Foundation Arts Building, 1847 Aquetong Road, New Hope, Pennsylvania.

This special event will feature remarks by:
- Mira Nakashima, President of the Nakashima Foundation and Creative Director of George Nakashima Woodworker
- Vladimir Aituganov, Master Mosaic Artist, who will share his experiences working with the Shahn family and restoring the mosaic
- Elizabeth Allan, Deputy Director and Curator at Morven Museum & Garden, who will talk about Ben Shahn’s impact in shaping an artist colony in New Jersey.
George Nakashima was a leading innovator of 20th century furniture design. The Nakashima Property in New Hope has been designated as a National Historic Landmark.

The suggested donation for the event is $125 per person. It's tax deductible and will benefit the work of the Nakashima Foundation for Peace. Register by September 30.
