NHS Cares Speaker to Discuss Racial Equality Awareness

The New Hope Solebury Cares free speaker series welcomes Peace Center Director of Leadership and Community Engagement Gayle Evans, on Wednesday, March 27th, at 7pm in the New Hope-Solebury High School library. She will speak to a need for awareness for racial equality as NHSC recognizes racial trauma month.

Evans will discuss how to create equality in our schools and classrooms. Building, strengthening and restoring relationships through courageous conversations and dialogue with people of diverse backgrounds are the pillars of her work.

She will tie some of her presentation to the work NHSC does in bringing awareness to youth-oriented drug and alcohol prevention. She will speak to the fact that people of color have a higher likelihood of being academically disadvantaged because of the racial trauma they experience. This trauma increases the possibility that people of color will misuse drugs and alcohol.

In addition to special projects, Evans facilitates diversity trainings and community dialogues for The Peace Center. For more than 20 years, she has dedicated her life to advocating for economic, racial, gender, and educational equity for marginalized populations.

This speaker series is sponsored monthly by New Hope Solebury Cares. NHS Cares is a federally funded, youth-oriented, drug and alcohol prevention organization whose mission is to work together to support a safe, healthy, addiction free community. A coalition meeting will be held immediately following the featured speaker to update the community on NHSC outreach programs and identify what role you can play as a volunteer.
