Police Release Details On New Hope-Solebury School Threat

A student received a phone call saying "your school is going to get shot up tomorrow" but police say it was an "ill-advised prank."

NEW HOPE, PA — A Tennessee juvenile was behind a threat that closed the New Hope-Solebury School District on Friday, police said in an afternoon update.

Police began investigating Thursday evening after a student reported receiving a phone call saying "your school is going to get shot up tomorrow." Police said they've determined it was an "ill-advised prank."

Investigators with the Solebury Township and New Hope Borough police departments notified the school district of the threat on Thursday evening, and officials decided to close the schools Friday.

The threat was not considered credible but the measures were taken out of caution, police said.

Local police, working with the FBI, conducted an "exhaustive investigation" on Thursday and Friday, determining the threat was made by a juvenile male from Tennessee.

The investigation shows that the threat was an “ill-advised prank" that at no time posed a direct threat to the school district, police said.

Authorities in Tennessee have been notified of the situation. Local police we will be working with them to determine the appropriate outcome, authorities said.
