Sugan Road Bridge To Close Through September

The bridge carrying South Sugan Road over Aquetong Creek will be closed and detoured through September, PennDOT said.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Construction on five Bucks County bridges, including one in New Hope, is scheduled to begin Monday, July 29, authorities announced this week.

The bridge carrying South Sugan Road over Aquetong Creek will be closed and detoured between West Mechanic Road and Stoney Hill Road in New Hope Borough. The closure will be in place through early September, PennDOT estimates.

During the closure, South Sugan Road motorists will be detoured over U.S. 202 (Lower York Road), Aquetong Road and Stoney Hill Road.

Work includes adding concrete overlay to the bridge deck, performing concrete substructure repairs, replacing and resealing the bridge deck joints, installing scour rock protection, and milling and paving the roadway.

That bridge, built in 1973, carries an average of 813 vehicles a day.

Also beginning Monday, July 29 and going through late August, the bridge carrying Stonybrook Road over Jericho Creek will be closed and detoured between Route 32 (River Road) and Slack Road in Upper Makefield Township.

During the closure, Stonybrook Road motorists will be detoured over Route 32, Lurgan Road, Street Road, Windy Bush Road, Pineville Road, and Eagle Road.

Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone, according to PennDOT.

The bridge over Jericho Creek will be repaired by adding concrete overlay to the bridge deck, performing concrete substructure repairs, replacing and resealing the bridge deck joints, installing scour rock protection, and milling and paving the roadway, PennDOT said.

The single-span bridge was built in 1973 and carries an average of 738 vehicles a day.

The other Bucks County bridges included the rehabilitation project are:

  • Route 563 (Mountain View Road) over Saw Mill Road in Haycock Township, Bucks County;
  • Big Oak Road over Interstate 295 in Middletown Township, Bucks County
  • Cat Hill Road over Perkiomen Creek in West Rockhill Township, Bucks County
