April Snow Storm Timeline For Eastern Pennsylvania

A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for an April storm that could now bring as much as six inches of snow in some parts of suburban Philadelphia. The storm could make April one of the top 10 snowiest on record from this event alone, the NWS said.

The Winter Weather Advisory starts at midnight and goes until 1 p.m. Monday across northeast and southeast Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey. Total snow accumulations estimates have increased since forecasters first warned of the storm's prospect. Three to five inches is now likely, and up to six inches is possible in a few spots, the NWS said in its Winter Weather Advisory.

The snow is expected to start around 2 a.m. and could begin as rain or a mix before transitioning to wet snow. "The snow will be heavy at times with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour between about 4 and 9 a.m.," the National Weather Service said.

The snow will taper off between 9 and 11 a.m.

Difficult travel conditions are likely Monday, including during the morning commute. The good news is high temperatures in the 40s will lead to "rapid melt" later in the day on Monday, forecasters say.

The storm could be one for the record books. The snowiest April on record in Philadelphia was in 1915, when 19.4 inches fell. This storm would have to drop more than 2.4 inches to put April 2018 among the snowiest Aprils on record.

Tuesday: Rain likely, mainly after 9am. Cloudy, with a high near 51. Southeast wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
