PENNSYLVANIA — As 2018 comes to a close, it's a good time to think back on the highlights. Especially when those highlights involve food.

The good folks at The Daily Meal website, who analyze all things related to dining and drinking, have been using their tastebuds all year to determine the best places to get everything from pretzels to pizza, and burritos to beer.

They've compiled their wisdom into the annual guide to the best food and drink across the country.

But first, a note about Pennsylvania's current culinary scene. The state is at a bit of a "cultural crossroads," the website says.

"On one hand, you have the backbone of this country, the blue collar workers, chugging along and enjoying a cheap beer at the state’s best dive bar (McGlinchey's Bar & Grill) and eating the best pretzels in the country at Miller’s Twist," The Daily Meal writes in its analysis of Pennsylvania's culinary scene.

But then there are the two large cities that anchor the state on either side. Philadelphia, due to an influx of millennials, is a bit of a "growing culinary hotspot." So much so that Travel+Leisure this year declared Philly's food scene to be more vibrant than that of New York City.
