Bubble Tea Shop Opens In Newtown

NEWTOWN, PA — Newtown Borough has its very own bubble tea café following the arrival of Hi Tea Bar on South State Street last month.

A tea-based drink originating in Taiwan in the early 1980s, bubble tea typically includes chewy tapioca balls but can also include flavored jellies.

The store also offers food items including edamame, crepes, fries and popcorn chicken.

Store hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

"Sooooo excited to have a boba shop here in Newtown. The thai milk tea was wonderful & boba pearls were wonderfully chewy. My fav is the grapefruit yogurt -- I think the yogurt drinks here are comparable to that of Kungfu Tea or any other larger franchise BBT brand. Loved the Taiwanese style popcorn chicken & matcha red bean crepe as well."
