After a six-month closure in which an 83-year-old span was replaced, Bucks County this week reopened Bridge No. 138 in Warwick Township, which carries Creek Road over a tributary to the Little Neshaminy Creek.

The county closed the bridge in November 2020 to replace a two-lane span that originally was built in 1937. The $1.1 million project, part of Bucks’ ongoing County Bridge Program, was paid for through state Act 13 Marcellus Shale Legacy Funds.

The new bridge is a single-span, composite, pre-stressed concrete spread box beam bridge 41 feet long and approximately 27 feet wide. It is about 10 feet longer than the original bridge, in part to improve the flow of the creek beneath it.

Two plaques were installed in the bridge’s concrete pylons: one that commemorates the original 1937 bridge and one for the new structure. The approach roadway to the bridge was also reconstructed, and guide trail was installed on the structure and the approach.

The new bridge, one of 114 owned by Bucks County and maintained by its General Services Division, is expected to last about 100 years.

Loftus Construction, Inc., of Cinnaminson, NJ, was the contractor on the project; bridge and roadway design were done by Pickering, Corts & Summerson of Newtown; and construction inspection was done by Carroll Engineering Corp of Warrington. Â
