Council Rock Gets $123K For Special Needs Support Amid COVID

The funds will allow the district to provide support to students with special needs who experienced a loss of skills due to the closures.

NEWTOWN, PA — The Council Rock School District has been awarded more than $123,000 in grant funding to help provide services for students with special needs during the coronavirus pandemic.

Gov. Tom Wolf Thursday announced 678 education agencies across the state are receiving a portion of $20 million from the Governor's Emergency Education Relief Fund and the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s federal funding.

Central Bucks was awarded $123,706.

The funds will allow the district to provide enhanced real-time instruction and services and support to students with special needs, who experienced a loss in skills and behavior or experienced a lack of progress because of mandatory school closures, state officials said.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, an additional $5 million in Governor's Emergency Education Relief grant funding will be available to Preschool Early Intervention programs to provide compensatory educational services.
