Downed Trees, Flooded Roads Force Closure Of Council Rock School

The decision, according to the school district's Facebook page, was made in consultation with the Upper Makefield Police Department.

UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA ?Students at the Sol Feinstone Elementary School are getting a "rain day" today due to flooded roadways, downed trees, and fallen power lines.

The Council Rock School District announced the closure of Sol Feinstone Elementary School this morning after consulting with the Upper Makefield Police Department.

"For all other schools, any student absence or late arrival due to the weather conditions will be excused," the district wrote. "Our buses are experiencing some delays and service interruptions and we ask for your patience as our drivers navigate road conditions safely."

The Upper Makefield Police Department is reporting numerous road closures due to flooding, downed trees and wires.

Flooding resulted in the closure of the following roads:

  • Eagle Road at Stoneybrook Road
  • Stoneybrook Road between Slack Road and Shannon Road
  • River Road south of Jonathan Way
  • River Road between Barlow Ridge Road and Lookout Park

The following roadways were also closed due to wires and or trees down:

  • River Road just north of Mt. Eyre Road
  • Lurgan Road between Brooks Bend and Bowman?s Tower
  • Brownsburg Road West in the area of Colts Neck Drive
  • Windy Bush Road in the area of Round Hill Road

As of 10 a.m., Brownsburg West at Colts Neck, Pineville Road, and Taylorsville Road between Woodhill Road and Route 532 are now open.

"Please do not go around the road closed signs," said police. "No matter what excuse you think you have to do so, it will not matter if you get hurt, stuck, or a ticket. So, consider this your warning and please drive safely this morning as we are not the only township affected."

Members of the township's Public Works Department came in before 3 a.m. to assist with road closures. "They are doing their best to keep up on the closures, clearing debris from the roadways and clearing any drains," police said.
