Driver Charged With Eluding Police; DUI Arrests Made In Newtown Twp.
Police also investigated numerous cases of fraud and conducted a truck safety detail.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA ? The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between Oct. 13 and Oct. 19:
October 13
- At approximately 8:40 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Honda sedan driver for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Buck Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

- At approximately 11:30 p.m. an Uber driver contacted police to report an incident of fraud. The driver explained that he was locked out of his account because someone in San Fransico had fraudulently been using it. The driver did not suffer a monetary loss but reported the incident to regain access to his account.
October 15
- At approximately 2:45 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Honda sedan driver for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Swamp Road and Twining Bridge Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
- Police were dispatched to a Newtown Township residence around 5:30 p.m. for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, a man was taken into custody without incident and charged with simple assault and harassment.

- At approximately 1:30 a.m. police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Chevy SUV operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Swamp and Twining Bridge roads. The vehicle fled from police, but for safety reasons, police did not pursue the vehicle. As a result of an investigation, the vehicle and vehicle owner were found to be wanted in connection to burglaries and felony warrants. The driver was charged with fleeing and eluding police.
- At 7:30 p.m. a Wrightstown Township resident contacted police to report a fraud involving unauthorized purchases on her account. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
October 17
- A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 11 a.m. to report identity theft. Someone fraudulently opened a bank account in her name with all of her personal information. The account was closed before the resident suffered a monetary loss. The resident was advised to monitor her accounts and contact the major credit bureaus.
October 18
- The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Brandywine Boulevard and Campus Drive in Newtown Township. The unit is made up of officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough and Upper Makefield. During the detail, 26 trucks were stopped and inspected, and five citations and 35 warnings were issued for violations that were found. Two trucks were placed out of service.
October 19
- At 4 p.m. police received a report of vandalism that occurred at a gas station in Newtown Township. Two male subjects defaced the inside of the bathroom door with graffiti, and the damage was documented.
