Drunk Driver Nearly Hit Officer On Newtown Bypass: Police
Police said the woman nearly struck an officer during a traffic stop on the Newtown Bypass.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Police say a woman who was drunk nearly hit an officer conducting a traffic stop on the Newtown Bypass last week.
Just before midnight on Aug. 15, an officer was conducting a traffic stop on the Bypass near Campus Drive when a white sedan sped by and nearly struck the officer, police said.
The sedan’s right side mirror hit the patrol vehicle and the operator did not stop, police said.

The officer followed the striking vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on the I-95 southbound ramp. Upon contact with the driver, later identified as Heather Ewan of Phoenxville, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, police said.
Ewan failed field sobriety tests and was a rrested on suspicion of DUI. She was processed at Northampton Township Police Department.
