Falling Tree Limbs Spark 2 Fires During Isaias: Newtown Twp PD
Falling tree limbs during Tropical Storm Isaias sparked 2 fires Tuesday, Newtown Township Police said. There were no injures.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Falling tree limbs during Tropical Storm Isaias sparked two residential fires Tuesday, Newtown Township Police said.
At 11:45 a.m., Newtown Township Police and the Newtown Fire Department responded to a home on Second Street Pike for the report of a dwelling fire. Police said a tree branch had fallen on the electric lines, pulling the meter off of the house and causing electrical sparking. The residents were evacuated, and officers remained on scene to direct the traffic until assistance was no longer needed.
Patrol also responded to a Hansel Road residence shortly before 2 p.m. for the report of a fire. On location, patrol observed a tree limb that was resting on a wire and burning. Fire personal arrived to put out the fire, which police described as "small."

Other impacts from the storm in Newtown included fallen tress and poles, as well as road closures.
Police said offiers were dispatched to six traffic signals without power and took twelve hazardous condition calls. Plus there were four areas with fallen wires and/or poles in the road. A portion of Linton Hill Road as well as a portion of Brownsburg Road were closed due to the issues.
