NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA ? The front porches and yards of Newtown Borough will be turned into a giant stage on Saturday during Newtown?s first-ever ?Porchstock.?

Taking its name from Woodstock, the legendary 1969 music festival held in New York State, Porchstock will fill the town with music from Chancellor Street to State Street.

Presented by the Newtown Experience, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting the town, residents and visitors are invited to set up their chairs on sidewalks and yards or just walk through the borough listening to the tunes filling the air.

From 1 to 4 p.m., block after block of bands and musicians will be performing everything from jazz and acoustic Americana to classic rock and everything in between, including a brass band, guitarist and a pianist.

?We have a whole lineup of local musicians who will be showcasing their talents,? said organizer Nicole Rodowicz. ?Some are going to be small - maybe one musician with a guitar - and some will be full bands that will be sprinkled throughout.?

At each music location, residents and visitors can pick up Porchstock pamphlets showing the location of each venue and the names of the musicians. The information will also be available online.

This is a free event, said Rodowicz. ?People can grab their dog or their stroller and take a walk around town and enjoy the music. It?s all done at your own pace.?

Rodowicz said organizers are excited to see how people decide to make their way through town. ?Will they bring folding chairs and sit in front of a house or will they sit for a few songs at each house? We?re not 100 percent sure how everyone will participate.?

Attendees are invited to bring their own folding chairs, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks to enjoy. They?re also encouraged to have a bite to eat at any of the Borough?s restaurants.

The Newtown Experience is encouraging the public to make a day of it by patronizing the town?s many eateries and shops before and after the event.

At each location, maps will be available showing other Porchstock stops. Locations and musicians include*:
