This is Gessner's first time running for office. He said he was encouraged by other parents to run for the seat. His wife, Mila, is also actively involved with the district as a PTO member.

"Me and my wife talk about schools every day," he said. "Then parents asked if I would be willing to step up and throw my hat in."
