Newtown Beerfest Canceled Due To Coronavirus Restrictions

The annual event raises $50K for the Newtown Fire Association. T-shirts and mugs are for sale to make up some of the loss.

NEWTOWN, PA — The 2020 Newtown Beerfest, which is the Newtown Fire Association's biggest annual fundraiser, has been canceled due to coronavirus.

The Fire Association said it was a difficult decision to make, as the event generates $50,000 a year for the organization.The funds raised during the annual Beerfest are used to maintain the organization's trucks and fire stations.

However, you can still support the local fire association, which stands to experience monetary setbacks as a result of the cancelation.

The Beerfest Committee will honor this year's canceled Beerfest with an official 2020 Beerfest (The Year the Tap Ran Dry) shirt, and mug. You can purchase the items here.

Beerfest organizers said they were continually monitoring the state's coronavirus guidelines "and had hoped we could host at full capacity with no restrictions."

But the outdoor event typically attracts 2,500 people, which is above the state's current guidelines for gatherings.

"After 10 years of great beers, bands, and all of you our Brew Crew, the 2020 Beerfest will not happen. Hopefully 2021 will bring normalcy and we’ll be back with a great Beerfest experience all have come to know and love," the Newtown Fire Association said in an announcement.
