Newtown Police Log: DUI Arrests, Fraud Cases & More

NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents between May 29 and June 3.

May 29

Around 11 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a black Lexus SUV for a vehicle code violation on Washington Crossing Road near Sycamore Street. The driver was charged with driving under the influence after being unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests, police said.

May 30

Around 1:30 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a black Toyota SUV for a vehicle code violation on Durham Road. The driver was charged with driving under the influence after being unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests, police said.

May 31

Around 12:30 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a silver Nissan Rogue for a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass near Buck Road. The driver was charged with driving under the influence after being unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests, police said.

June 2

The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail on Durham Road and Fox Hill Drive in Wrightstown Township. The unit is made up of officers from the Newtown Township, Newtown Borough and Upper Makefield police departments. During the detail, 18 trucks were stopped and inspected. Seven citations and 13 warnings were issued for violations. Two trucks were placed out of service, and one was towed.

Around 9:30 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a Pontiac for a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass near Lindenhurst Road. The driver was charged with driving under the influence after being unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests, police said.

June 3

Around 1:30 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a white Subaru for a vehicle code violation on Durham Road. The driver was charged with driving under the influence after being unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests, police said.

Around 3:35 p.m., a resident reported an unemployment fraud. Someone falsely applied for benefits with his name and Social Security number. The complainant contacted the credit bureaus and the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry to handle the matter.
