Newtown Police Log: DUIs, Phone Scams, & More

NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between May 7 and May 13.
May 7
Around 12:30 a.m., police charged the driver of a silver Chevy sedan with driving under the influence following a traffic stop on the Newtown Bypass near Woodbourne Road.

At 9:15 p.m., a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a fraud attempt. She was notified that someone attempted to make a purchase with her debit card information. The complainant was able to close her account and did not suffer any financial loss.
May 8

Around 2 a.m., police charged the driver of a white GMC Terrain with driving under the influence following a traffic stop on Mill Pond Road near Richboro Road.
Around 6:30 p.m., police were called to a hit-and-run crash on the Newtown Bypass near Buck Road. The vehicle that fled the scene was later found disabled against a guardrail it struck on the bypass near Summit Avenue. The driver was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
Around 8:15 p.m., police were called to Acme Market for a report of criminal mischief. Three male teens, who were no longer at the scene, took a package of eggs and three cans of silly string from the store and vandalized the area. The teens were later identified and cited for disorderly conduct.
May 10
At 3 p.m., a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a fraud. They received a phone call from someone claiming that their social security number was stolen. Police advised them that this was a scam and recommended contacting the Social Security Administration.
May 11
Around 9 p.m., police carried out a traffic stop on the driver of a green Ford for a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass near Swamp Road. Upon contact with the driver, a small amount of suspected marijuana was discovered and seized as evidence. The driver was cited as a result.
May 12
Around 12:45 a.m., police charged the driver of a maroon Honda SUV with driving under the influence following a traffic stop on the Newtown Bypass near Buck Road.
Around 4 p.m., police were called to a Wrightstown Township home for a report of a verbal argument that turned physical. One person was arrested and charged with assault.
Police were called to Newtown Grant around 7:15 p.m. for the report of an intoxicated man breaking patio furniture at a home. Police made contact with the man, who refused medical assistance. Citations were issued.
May 13
Around 11:50 p.m., police carried out a traffic stop on the driver of a silver Volkswagen Passat for a vehicle code violation on Pheasant Run and Terry Drive. The driver was charged with a suspended license.
