Newtown Police Log: DUIs, Retail Theft & More

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents between June 25 and July 1, 2021.

June 25

Around 11:59 p.m., the driver of a white Hyundai was charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop on the Newtown Bypass near Woodbourne Road.

June 26

Around 2:30 a.m., the driver of a blue BMW was charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop on Richboro Road near West Hanover Street.

Around 11:30 p.m., the driver of a silver Ford Focus was charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop on Durham Road near North Drive.

June 27

Around 9:30 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a silver Infiniti for a vehicle code violation in the area of Buck and Mill Pond roads. As the officer approached the vehicle, he detected the odor of marijuana. The officer subsequently searched the vehicle and a small amount of marijuana was discovered and seized as evidence. The driver received a citation.

June 30

The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail on the Newtown Bypass at Lindenhurst Road. Sixteen trucks were stopped and inspected and four citations and five warnings were issued for violations.

July 1

Around 1:15 a.m., the driver of a silver Acura was stopped on South Sycamore Street and Barclay Street for a vehicle code violation. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

Around 10:30 a.m., police were dispatched to Bed Bath & Beyond for a retail theft. It was reported that a woman with blonde hair walked out of the store with two KitchenAid mixers and drove off in a blue Honda Accord. Police are investigating the incident.

A Wrightstown Township resident responded to police headquarters at 3 p.m. to reporta theft. A FedEx package was stolen from his front yard sometime during the previous week. The total value of loss was $448.
