Newtown Students Win Main Street Voices Poetry Contest
Ellie Burke and Molly Gorelik finished first in their respective categories

Several Newtown students were among the winners of the Main Street Voices Poetry Contest.
Kutz Elementary School student Ellie Burke’s poem, Sky, won first place in the 1-3 grade category, and George School student Molly Gorelick’s poem, Picky Eater, won the 10-12 grade category.
The Main Street Voices Poetry Contest winners were announced Friday. The award ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the historic James Lorah House in Doylestown.

Sol Feinstone student Matilda Bray’s poem Everlasting, took second place in the 1-3 grade category, and Kutz Elementary student Taylor Lee’s poem, The Beach, finished in second place in the 4-6 grade category.
The contest was started by Doylestown Bookshop owner Glenda Childs last year along with the bookshop’s Poetry Coordinator Melanie Eyth and bookshop Director of Publicity and Events Krisy Paredes. Marie Kane (2006 Bucks County Poet Laureate), Ellen Mager (Booktenders Secret Garden), Kimberly Cambra (CB Cares) and Kathy Morrison (The Newtown Bookshop) also volunteer on the committee.

The contest was open to all Bucks County students and adults. The James Lorah House is located at 132 N. Main Street in Doylestown,

The following are the results of the contest:
1-3 Grade
1st place: SKY, Ellie Burke, Kutz Elementary School
2nd place: EVERLASTING, Matilda Bray, Sol Feinstone
4-6 Grade
1st place: IN THE FALL, Mia Pogach, Doylestown Elementary School
2nd place: THE BEACH, Taylor Lee, Kutz Elementary School
7-9 Grade
1st place: ONLY THE BLIND CAN SEE THE KIND, William Lyons, Holicong Middle School
2nd place: I HAVE NO NEED OF THE ARMIES, India Franklin, Charles Boehm Middle School
10-12 Grade
1st place: PICKY EATER, Molly Gorelick, George School
2nd place: THE ADDICT, Michaela Althouse, Central Bucks West High School
