Newtown Township Police Activity: Burglaries, Theft

The following recent activity was reported by the Newtown Township Police Department.

While investigating a house alarm on Delaney Drive, Newton Township Police found that a glass panel of the rear patio door had been smashed out of its frame at approximately 9:05 p.m. on April 3.

A K-9 unit from Middletown Township Police Department responded with a dog to clear the house and try to do a track of a suspect. While conducting the investigation and checking the neighborhood, officers discovered a second home with similar damage to the glass panel of a rear door. The home also had been burglarized.

The investigations into both burglaries remain active and the victims have been asked to compile lists of missing property.

April 4

Newtown Township Police stopped a motorist on the Newtown Bypass after observing the operator commit multiple vehicle code violations at approximately 2:20 a.m. The officer believed 19-year-old Zachary Weatherington of Fairless Hills, was driving under the influence of alcohol, incapable of safe driving and under the legal drinking age of 21.

Weatherington was taken into custody and transported to Saint Mary Medical Center for a blood draw. The blood sample will be submitted to the Bucks County Crime Lab, and charges are pending the results of the analysis.

The officer also determined that the passenger, 19 year-old William Simpson III of Bald Cypress Lane in Levittown, was also under the influence of alcohol and under the legal drinking age of 21.

Police allege Simpson repeatedly used foul language toward officers, continuing his disruptive behavior when his father arrived to pick him up. Simpson will receive citations charging him with underage drinking, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

At 9:20 a.m., Newtown Township Police responded to a report of a theft on Diamond Drive.

The resident informed police that someone stole a Thule bike rack and mounting equipment from the top of his vehicle, which was parked in front of his home sometime between 8:30 p.m. on April 3 and 9 a.m. on April 4.

The resident reported that the missing items are valued at approximately $400.

April 5

Township Police arrested two individuals for suspicion of driving under the influence. The first occurred at approximately 2 a.m. when police pursued a driver on Newtown Bypass traveling at a high rate of speed.

Police say Leon Shmurak, 48, of Newtown Township, made a turn onto Justice Drive allegedly without using a turn signal, and continued driving despite the police activating their emergency lights. He then into turned his own driveway where he was confronted by police.

While speaking to Shmurak, the officer believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody and transported to Saint Mary Medical Center and agreed to have blood drawn to be tested by the Bucks County Crime Lab

Charges are pending until results are back from the lab.

At approximately 3:20 a.m., police pulled over Clintonia Keys, 36, of Langhorne, in the area of Newtown Bypass and Newtown Gate Drive due to traffic violations.

While speaking to Keys, the officer believes he smelled alcohol on her breath, and it wasn’t safe for her to drive. Keys was also transported to Saint Mary’s Medical Center where she agreed to have her blood drawn for analysis, according to police.

Charges are pending the lab results from Bucks County Crime Lab.
