The Newtown United Methodist Church (NUMC) will be holding outdoor worship this Sunday, October 4, 2020, at 9:30 AM in the church's parking lot at 35 Liberty Street in Newtown. "Coronavirus may have closed our building," says Pastor Blaik Westhoff, "But it has not stopped the church. The community is strong."

The church has been providing virtual worship service at 9:30 AM on Sunday mornings on its website (www.newtownumc.com) and its Facebook page since mid-March and will continue to provide these links for the foreseeable future. The church started outdoor worship last Sunday. "It is good to be able to see other members of the community," says Pat King, a long-time member of the church, "Even if it is from the comfort of our cars and we are all in masks!

This week, there will be Communion for those who wish to participate. The church will e using individually wrapped communion cups and wafers. There will also be a short children's message during the service.

If you plan to attend, go to the NUMC website and download the bulletin for information on the service. When you arrive for the outdoor worship, pull into a parking space, so you're facing the back door of the church building and tune to 102.3 FM (or another frequency as you're directed). Worship will be conducted from the "patio" by the back door.

"The Church welcomes everyone," says Pastor Blaik.
