CHURCHVILLE, PA — Roy Rakszawski is no stranger to the inner workings of a school district.

As superintendent of the Edgewater Park School Districts since 2013, the Bucks County resident led a comprehensive strategic planning process that brought facilities improvements to schools, Google Chromebooks for every student and expanded special education programs.

A Churchville native, Rakszawski lived in New Jersey for 20 years before moving back to his hometown with his wife and three young children in 2009.

“It was the school district that brought me back," he said. "From my student teaching experience at Council Rock High School in 1987, I knew this was a special place with a positive culture. I wanted my children to benefit from all that Council Rock has to offer."

Now, Rakszawski is running for the Council Rock School Board to represent Region 6, which includes four voting districts in Northampton Township. His opponent, Michael Roosevelt, who he considers a friend, is also running for the seat.

Mark Byelich, who currently holds the seat but is not seeking a third term, has publicly stated his support for Roosevelt to be his successor.

Prior to serving as superintendent, Rakszawski was a middle school principal in the Mount Holly Township School District for six years and principal at Magnolia School for one year. He transitioned to school leadership after teaching music in the Runnemede School District for 13 years.

Rakszawski is cross-filing as a Democrat and Republican and will appear on both party ballots in the May 18 primary. The last day to register to vote in the primary election is May 3.
