Odd Winter Continues With Awful Week Of Weather Ahead For PA

Pennsylvania's odd winter continues with an up and down forecast that includes lots of rain and a big temperature change this week.

PENNSYLVANIA — It's shaping up to be another awful week of weather in Eastern Pennsylvania. Expect lots of clouds, rain, and plummeting temperatures later in the week. Forecasters with the National Weather Service are also eyeing the chance of snow on Sunday but at this point no details are available.

The forecast for the week includes rain daily through Friday. While there will be sun on Friday, temperatures will plummet. The high temperature is expected to be in the upper 20s to lower 30s that day, forecasters predict.

For Monday, expect rain throughout the day and going into the night. Up to a half inch of rain could fall during the day and through the night, forecasters with the National Weather Service said.

Then Tuesday, expect more rain with another quarter inch possible. It will likely clear up Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, but more rain will return Wednesday night, when up to a half inch is in the forecast.

Rain lingers Thursday as well, before clearing Friday and the big cool down.

Temperatures will remain cold Saturday, with a high in the lower 30s. But Sunday is expected to warm up slightly with a high in the 40s. The National Weather Service is eyeing a chance of snow on that day, but it's too far out for any specifics.

It's the latest in what has been an odd winter across the Philadelphia region.

On Friday, destructive storms pummeled the area, leaving thousands without power and roads closed due to multiple downed trees. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued due to high winds and possible hail.

Of course, it's more typical to have a winter storm warning in February than a severe thunderstorm warning but conditions have been unseasonably warm most of the winter.

One weekend in January saw record-breaking high temperatures in the 60s.

And if you're a fan of snow, it's been a real downer. As of late January, total snowfall was nine inches below what is normal for a season, according to the National Weather Service.

It's still possible winter could come back with a vengeance. Four of Philadelphia's top 10 days for snowfall totals have fallen in February, including nearly 22 inches on Feb. 6, 2010, 21 inches on Feb. 11, and 16 inches on Feb. 16, 2003.
