Rally Sends Off Pennsylvania Team To Little League World Series In Style

Red Land plays the Midwest region champion in the first round of the tournament Friday night. Here's what you should know.

York County’s Red Land Little League is now beginning to feel like a team of fate.

The team from Lewisberry was sent off with an impromptu pep rally at a local Dicks Sporting Goods on Friday afternoon, with all the pomp and circumstance of a champion gladiator marching toward the area toward his destiny.

Red Land, the Mid-Atlantic region champion from Pennsylvania, will face Webb City, Missouri, the Midwest region champion, in the first round of the tournament Friday night.

Dick’s is providing transportation for Red Land’s team and its families to and from the tournament in Williamsport on Friday.

They also sold custom Red Land t-shirts, which are available for $20 at the store, with $5 from every purchase directly supporting the team and the families of team members.

Red Land’s game is the last game scheduled in Williamsport on Friday night. The tournament was slated to begin on Thursday but was delayed due to rain, meaning that a record eight games will be played throughout the day on Friday.

A GoFundMe campaign for Red Land’s team has launched to help pay for other expenses incurred, such as room and board.

Red Land has become the second Pennsylvania team in two years to represent the Mid-Atlantic Region after Mo’ne Davis and the famed Taney Dragons’ run in the summer of 2014.

Red Land is an undefeated 16-0 in the tournament thus far, having outscored its opponents by a monstrous 244-13, a plus 231 run differential.

With such numbers, its hard not to classify the York County sluggers as favorites in the tournament.
