'Run For Reading' To Hit The Streets Of Newtown Borough

Registration is now being taken for the event, which raises funds for the Newtown Library Company, the oldest operating library in Bucks.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA ? This year's "Run for Reading" 5K Run and Walk will hit the streets of Newtown on Saturday, October 4, for the benefit of the Newtown Library Company, the oldest operating library in historic Bucks County.

The 2025 race will begin and end at the Newtown Library Company, located at 114 E. Centre Avenue in Newtown Borough, and will kick off the 49th Annual Newtown Market Day hosted by the Newtown Historic Association.

"The much-anticipated Newtown Market Day is a wonderful day of activities that brings everyone together to celebrate our historic community,? said Newtown Library Company board member Nancy Webster. ?We are excited to announce that our course for the Run For Reading 5K event has been recently USATF-certified. So whether you?re a runner looking for a certified course or just want to join your family members and friends and enjoy the beauty of running through historic Newtown Borough, this fundraising event is for you.

?For me, it?s always heart-warming to hear the stories about how they have made our event a fun family tradition," said Webster. "From pushing their children in the stroller to now having them join in the run, their photos are proof of the memorable moments this race can create for all ages. For the book lovers looking for more to enjoy, check out the tables filled with great books for sale for low as a $1."

As a nonprofit, the library relies solely on its members, sponsors, and donors, and are incredibly grateful for the community?s support.

The 5K is open to everyone, with discounted online pre-registration now available on Active.com. Pre-registration is $40 per individual. Individual race day registration is $45.

Packet pick-up and in-person race day registration will open at 8 a.m. The event will kick-off with a yoga warm-up with Elle Kaplan at 8:45 a.m. The race begins at 9 a.m., following a course through historic Newtown Borough and ending outside the library where booths and festivities will be set up for Newtown Market Day.

The race is sponsored by The First National Bank & Trust Co. of Newtown, Sensory Zone, Keystone Answering Service, One Call Alarm, Rotary Club of Newtown, Kenderline Oil, Johnson Kendall Johnson, Barry Isett & Assoc., Remax (Dan McCloskey), Steele?s Gulf Auto Repair, Newtown Printing, Action Karate, Petro and the Frank Brassell Foundation.
