Sept. 11 Remembrance Planned In Newtown, Former Gov. To Speak

A ​ Sept. 11 ​remembrance event is planned Friday in Newtown. Former Gov. Mark Schweiker will be the featured speaker.

NEWTOWN, PA — A Sept. 11 remembrance event in honor of first responders is planned Friday in Newtown. The event will be held at Pickering Field starting at 6 p.m.

According to organizers, monetary donations for Shop with a Cop will be collected. "We Support Our Police" signs will be for sale, and part of the proceeds will also go to Shop with a Cop, a program that provides holiday gifts for children in need.

Former Gov. Mark Schweiker will be the featured speaker, according to organizers. The names of the 18 people from Bucks County who died on Sept. 11 will be read aloud.

Organizers are asking all attendees to refrain from wearing political attire to the event.
