Severe Storms Pummel Eastern PA With 60 MPH Winds, Hail

EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Severe storms with wind gusts of up to 60 mph and large hail ripped across Eastern Pennsylvania Thursday, knocking down trees and power lines.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the entire region, including Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia. The warning remains in place through 2:15 p.m.

The storms are moving east from Montgomery County at 55 mph, the weather service said just before 2 p.m.

Forecasters warn there may be damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines.

As of 2:20 p.m., PECO is reported 32,000 customers are without power. In Delaware County, 9,090 are without power and in Montgomery 7,941 are without.

In Bucks County, where hail left icy piles in some parts of the county, there are more than 7,000 outages.

The National Weather Service tweeted that residents should "heed all warnings," as damaging winds are resulting from the storm.
