What Will Halloween In Newtown Look Like In 2020?

NEWTOWN, PA — Halloween in Newtown is typically festive, with decorations, trick-or-treating, and even a parade.

But how will coronavirus change that in 2020?

Newtown Borough Mayor Charles Swartz said Monday there were no current plans to limit trick-or-treating for the public.

However, the parade may not happen, he said. Swartz said the borough is considering just a costume contest, but details are still in the works.

The parade typically draws hundreds to the borough, where costumed participants march from the Stocking Works complex to Brian Gregg Memorial Park. Prizes are then awarded to those with the best costumes in various categories.

Some nearby towns, including Lambertville, NJ, have cautioned residents against trick-or-treating due to the pandemic.

"Lambertville typically welcomes thousands of visitors on Halloween for safe and fun trick-or-treating," police in Lambertville said earlier this month. "However, given the high rate of airborne transmission, such a high concentration of people is simply unsafe from a public health perspective."
