Nicole Khan has emerged as a challenger to incumbent Kristin Marcell on the Council Rock School board.

NEWTOWN, PA — A political newcomer is running to serve a four-year term on the Council Rock School Board.
Nicole Khan, of Wrightstown, is running for school director for Region 9, which includes all of Wrightstown Township and Newtown Township Districts 1 & 2.
A western New York native, Khan graduated from the University of Buffalo with a master's degree in education before relocating to Bucks County with her husband more than 16 years ago. She has a son in first grade at Sol Feinstone Elementary School, where she serves on the board of the parent-teacher organization.

Khan, 41, is a former elementary school teacher, having taught for eight years in the Philadelphia region. She said she was inspired to run after community members approached her about serving on the school board.
"The more I thought about it — the more people that I spoke with — it just got to a point where I felt like I needed to run," Khan said.

She will appear on both the Democratic and Republican ballots in the May 18 primary election.
