Katherine Zhou, a senior at North Allegheny Senior High School, is one of 250 U.S. students to be named a finalist for the 2013 Coca-Cola Scholars program, according to the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.

Approximately 111,000 students who applied to the 25-year-old program, of which more than 2,100 were named semifinalists. A committee of 30 college admissions and high school guidance officers reviewed the semifinalist applications and considered their record of leadership and achievement before selecting the 250 finalists, according to the foundation.

Katherine has been invited to take an all-expenses-paid trip in April to Atlanta, where she and other finalists will be interviewed by a selection committee made up of national leaders in business, government, education and the arts, according to the foundation.

From the finalists, 50 students will be named National Scholars and will receive awards of $20,000 for college. Each of the remaining 200 Finalists will be designated as Regional Scholars and will receive awards of $10,000 for college.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation provides scholarship programs and alumni enrichment opportunities aimed at developing a network of future community leaders.
