North Allegheny Hires New Security Manager
The retired Coast Guard commander has an extensive background in security and safety.

McCANDLESS TOWNSHIP, PA - North Allegheny School District has hired a retired United States Coast Guard commander as its new manager of school safety and security.
School directors on Wednesday approved Michael Evanish for the post. He will oversee the district’s comprehensive safety plan to address emergency preparedness, safety and security, as well as facilitate safety training for district employees.
“Mr. Evanish’s experience in site security, planning, and safety operations will greatly benefit the North Allegheny community,” superintendent Robert Scherrer said in a district release. “His wide range of expertise will provide a unique perspective to the district’s existing security plans, which will enhance and strengthen the robust plans currently in place in order to maintain a safe school environment.”

Evanish most recently served as the operations manager for PalAmerican Security in Robinson. Before that, he served as branch manager for U.S. Security Associates in Wheeling from 2013 until 2017.
Ebanish held various supervisory positions with the Coast Guard, including deputy incident commander for New Orleans, Louisiana, during Hurricane Katrina salvage and recovery operations; project manager for a multimillion dollar bridge demolition and construction project; commander/senior reserve officer for an anti-terrorism team aimed to expose, prevent, and respond to terroristic threats; and various supervisory positions in law enforcement, military outload, and site safety and security.

Evanish holds a bachelor’s degree in English writing from the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from the United States Coast Guard Officer Candidates School. He earned two Commendation Medals, four Achievement Medals, and numerous additional awards for superior performance of duties while in the Coast Guard.
