North Allegheny Seeks Distinguished Alumni Award Nominees

Find out here how you can nominate someone for the prestigious award.

North Allegheny High School is accepting nominations for the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Awards. Sponsored by the North Allegheny Foundation, the awards recognize alumni who have made significant contributions to society or have a record of outstanding professional accomplishments.

Areas of consideration include:

  • Advancement of profession; expertise and dedication to their field.
  • Significant professional innovations or research findings.
  • Significant contributions for the advancement of the community.

Nominations in the areas of arts, business, community service, education, government, law, medicine, science and young professional (40 and under) will be accepted until October 15 and will only be accepted through the online nomination process. Awardees will be recognized at the Distinguished Alumni Gala in January.

The 2018 winners were:

  • Art: Wayne Brinda, Class of 1968, co-founder/producing artistic director of Prime Stage.
  • Business: Tom Bowman, Class of 1973, owner and president, Bowman & Company CPA.
  • Community Service: Kimberly Boucek, Class of 1985, Founder, Boucek’s Battalion; retired Franklin Park police officer.
  • Education: Mark Nordenberg, Class of 1966, Chancellor Emeritus, University of Pittsburgh.
  • Government: Larry Schweiger, Class of 1968, president emeritus and past CEO of PennFuture.
  • Law: Lara Ditka, Class of 1981, Chief Deputy Attorney General, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Medicine: Robert E. Hillman, Class of 1970, co-director and research director of the Center for Laryngeal Surgery & Voice Rehabilitation at Massachusetts General Hospital; professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School; director of research programs at MGH Institute of Health Professions.
  • Science: Warren "Woody" Hoburg, Class of 2004, NASA astronaut candidate.
  • 40 and Under: Jessica Jackley, Class of 1996, co-founder of Kiva; entrepreneur, investor, and speaker.
