North Allegheny Senior Wins Siemens AP Award, Scholarship

Lily Zhang, a senior at has been named one of two Pennsylvania state winners of the 2012-13 Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement, school district officials announced.

The award from the Siemens Foundation, administered by the College Board, recognizes the nation’s top achievers in Advanced Placement courses in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. 

Lily has taken 18 AP courses to date, and she says her favorite is chemistry. She plans to study biochemistry and philosophy in college and to seek a career in medicine, according to the school district.'

Her advice for other AP students: “Maintain good study and work habits. To truly succeed in these classes, it has to be about more than the grade.”

The Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement honor a maximum of two students (one male and one female) from each U.S. state with $2,000 scholarships.

Scholarship winners have earned the greatest number of scores of 5 on exams in these AP courses: biology, calculus BC, chemistry, computer science A, environmental science, statistics, physics C mechanics, and physics C electricity and magnetism.
