He spent many summers in Canada and brought his love of hockey back to North Allegheny, and was one of the founders of NA Hockey. The team's MVP award is in his name.Â
"He was always so active," said his son. "I had a hard time keeping up with him, even in his later years."
"Bill was an avid swimmer in our community swim program," said North Allegheny Athletics Director Bob Bozzuto. "He was an outstanding gentlemen, and a great supporter of the North Allegheny School District."
Ashley Brant remembered May fondly in a message sent to the North Allegheny Patch Facebook Page .
"I knew Mr. Bill May from coming to pool on Saturdays and weeknights at NA during community swim hours. He would wear his tattered Na Hockey jacket from the 70's with pride," she said. "He was always cheerful and had a magnetic personality, it didn't matter if you were young or old Mr. May would befriend you and chat. In my book he's a NA legend and will missed dearly."
"My Dad never drank, never smoked, and was always conscious about his health, something he tried to pass on to everyone he met," said his son Bob. "When he made a friend, it was a friend for life, he never lost contact with anyone."
In addition to Bob, his wife, Nancy, daughter Cora, and son William III survive him.Â
Friends received Friday, 2 - 4 p.m. & 7 - 9 p.m. at Simons Funeral Home , Inc., 7720 Perry Highway. Memorial Service on Saturday, 1 p.m., in  Ingomar United Methodist Church , 1501 West Ingomar Rd. Contributions may be made to Grove City College, North Allegheny Swim Teams or Animal Friends.Â
