Pittsburgh-Area High School To Close At Year's End
The private high school has been around since 1932.
McCANDLESS, PA - After nearly nine decades, Vincentian Academy will close its doors in June. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, which operates the private high school on McKnight Road lacks the financial resources to keep it open amid declining enrollment.
“I was heartbroken to receive the news that our school is closing," principal Rita Canton said in a release announcing the closure. "Vncentian Academy is a close-knit family. You have students, parents, teachers who care about each other. We will now work to finish the academic year strong and assist our students and their parents with enrollment into a new school.”
Founded in 1932 as a school for young women aspiring to a religious life, the school became co-ed in 1975. In 1995, the school began a partnership with Duquesne University that lasted until 2010.
