Wexford Woman Using Bike Tires to Revive Popular North Allegheny Trail
The woman is collecting bike tires, money and volunteers to make the walking trail safe again.

A Wexford woman is reviving a popular trail by the North Allegheny Intermediate School in McCandless with the use of something rarely used to do so—mountain bike tires.
Elsie Spry, 55, has collected 150 tires from local bike shops to use on about 80 feet of dirt path and she needs about 150 more, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
The tires will form the trail foundation necessary to keep the trail in place and prevent erosion. The tires won't be seen once the gravel is placed on top of them.

Spry got the idea from a Milwaukee architect who used car tires to build a trail in a poor neighborhood.
With the help of more volunteers and about $1,500 more in fundraising, Spry hopes to have the project completed in July.
