Automated Recycling Collection to Begin in June in Ross Township
Many Ross residents will be asked to place all recyclable materials in 65-gallon bins.
Ross Township Manager Douglas Sample told the board of Commissioners Monday night that automated recycling collection would begin June 1 in Ross Township.
Ross Commissioners voted March 4 to opt into automated recycling collection, where feasible in the township.
Each customer will be given a 65-gallon recycling bin on wheels for the disposal of all recycling materials, including glass, plastics, cardboard, and newspapers. There will be no charge for the bins.

The bins will be delivered to those residents beginning in May.
"An automated arm is going to come out of the truck, grab the bin, empty it in the truck and set it right back down where it picked it up," said Sample.

In areas where on-street parking is permitted or the street is too narrow for the automated arm to reach the curbside bins, workers will continue to collect recyclables.
The vote on the issue was 8-1, with Board President Grant Montgomery voting no.
Waste Management will decide which customers will be required to use the new bins.
"Customers don't have a choice in the matter," said Montgomery. "And that's why I voted no."
