The Allegheny County Parks Department will hold a “Freedom Financial Fight Against Cancer” 5K Walk & Run at 9 a.m. Sat., June 11, at North Park’s Pie Traynor Field.
Event day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. Participants may pre-register at https://www.raceit.com/register/?event=3549 by June 9 to receive a discounted fee of $20 for adult runners and walkers or $10 for runners and walkers ages 18 and younger. Children ages 10 and younger may participate for free.
The race is USA Track & Field sanctioned, and participants will race in support of the V Cancer Foundation, which was started by former N.C. State Basketball Coach Jim Valvano when he was battling cancer. The foundation has set goals to maintain the lowest overhead among cancer research fundraising organizations, to continue to increase funding for cancer research year after year, and to monitor performance of scientists through annual reporting.
