Kohl's on McKnight Road Opens after Report of Gas Odor

Equitable Gas crews are working to locate the source of the gas odor. No gas was detected inside the store according to Equitable Gas and the Ross Fire Marshal.

The department store in Ross Township is open this morning, although it was closed while emergeny crews searched for the source of a gas odor near the store at 4801 McKnight Road.

The store was scheduled to open at 8 a.m., but customers were kept away this morning while and others responded to reports about the gas odor shortly after 8 a.m. Store employees said at 9:45 a.m. that customers were permitted to enter the store.

As of 12:30 pm, the source of the odor has not been determined. Equitable Gas spokesman Scott Waitlevertch said that gas company crews are currently on scene investigating the area behind the store for the source of a potential leak.  He added that Kohl's is open and no gas was was detected inside the store.

Ross Township Fire Marshal John Reubi said earlier that the fire department also checked the Kohl's department store and found no gas presence.

Reubi said the gas odor may have entered the store through the HVAC system. Reubi also added that there is no construction underway in the area around the store.
