Ross Tax Collector, Former Commissioner Gerald O'Brien Dies
Mr. O'Brien served 14 years as a township commissioner.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - Gerald O’Brien, a former township commissioner who most recently served as the township’s tax collector, died Monday. He was 77.
Mr. O’Brien was the 7th Ward commissioner for 14 years before stepping down in 2013 after being elected tax collector.
In a career that included a variety of government positions, Mr. O’Brien served as Duquesne University’s director of intramural sports, a Sauers Trucking vice president and general manager, a Pennsylvania Department of Revenue financial analyst, Allegheny County assistant manager and assistant executive director of the county’s Kane Regional Centers.

Mr. O’Brien held a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration from Duquesne University. He was active in the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Equity. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald O’Brien.
Survivors include his wife, Bridget (Watson) O’Brien; a daughter, Erin A. O’Brien (Tom Hartman); sons Gerald R. O’Brien, Jr. (Lauren) and Ian O’Brien (Dawn); a sister, Janet Zubik; and grandchildren Maura, Mary Cate, Tatum, Patrick, Cameron, Shannon, Ireland, Norah, Declan, Logan, Liam and Bryce.

Friends will be received Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Athanasius Church Friday at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh, 3526 Bakerstown Road, Bakerstown PA 15007.
