Man Charged In Strip District Shooting Death Arrested

U.S. Marshals arrested Howard Hawkins in California. He is charged with the February shooting death of Ahmir Tuli.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA — U.S. Marshals have apprehended a Pittsburgh man wanted in connection with the death of a teenager shot to death in the Strip District in February.

Howard Hawkins, also known as Mark McClendon, was arrested Wednesday in North Hollywood, CA. He is charged with homicide in the the death of Ahmir Tuli, 18, a 2020 North Hills High School graduate.

Tuli was shot to death outside of Preeti's Pit, his mother's bar, in the 2700 block of Penn Avenue. According to police, Hawkins shot Tuli in the head shortly after being kicked out of the bar following an argument.

Last month, police arrested Chayla Robinson, 40, of Brentwood, whom police said is Hawkins' girlfriend. She is charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution after allegedly driving Hawkins away from the shooting scene and dropping him off at a friend's house.
